History of Energy Cooperatives
Cooperative organizations in the energy sector are not a totally new phenomenon of the last years or decades. Rather, they have been a common vehicle for rural electrification throughout the world. However, not much research has been done on these “old electricity cooperatives” besides those in the USA. Therefore, some German-speaking scholars started a working group to research the history of energy cooperatives in Germany and Switzerland (potentially extending to Austria and South Tyrole).
